There are various assessment options, support and consultancy services available
In addition to being a qualified teacher and SENCo, Gillian holds the professional accreditation AMBDA, Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association, an Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC) and a Level 7 Post Graduate Certificate: Working with Children with Literacy Difficulties. Gillian is therefore qualified to assess and tutor children with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) such as Dyslexia. Holders of the AMBDA accreditation are recognised as specialists in Dyslexia / SpLDs, as it is considered the ‘gold standard’ for assessors and teachers, ensuring consistency and high quality provision across the profession. As such, Gillian can assess for, and diagnose Dyslexia / SpLDs; provide assessments for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA); and make recommendations for Examination Access Arrangements. Additionally, Gillian offers Consultancy Services and works with Schools and Local Authorities to assess and make recommendations contributing to Education, Health and Care Plans for learners. She also devises / delivers specialist teaching programmes for individuals that are experiencing difficulties in the learning environment across the Primary and Secondary sectors. Such programmes are structured, cumulative, multisensory and personalised to the individual based on their strengths and challenges. Advice for Teaching Staff working with learners with identified SpLDs, and training for Learning Support Assistants that deliver interventions, can also be included as required.

Diagnostic Testing for SpLD / Dyslexia

You will receive:

  • Initial telephone consultation to ascertain needs
  • Family background questionnaire
  • Class Teacher / School questionnaire
  • Comprehensive diagnostic testing covering a variety of areas such as general ability, literacy skills (reading, writing, spelling), cognitive processing skills (e.g. phonological awareness, memory, speed of processing) and numeracy skills (if applicable) (2-4 hours)
  • Comprehensive and holistic written report detailing tests carried out, findings and recommendations
  • British Dyslexia Association registered Accredited Assessor (AMBDA) with Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC)

You will receive:

  • School / College questionnaire

  • Comprehensive and holistic written report detailing tests carried out, findings and recommendations
  • British Dyslexia Association registered Accredited Assessor (AMBDA) with Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC)

Examination Access Arrangements Assessment

You will receive:

  • Focused attainment and speed testing (2 hours)
  • Report indicating tests carried out, findings and recommendations
  • British Dyslexia Association registered Accredited Assessor (AMBDA) with Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC)

Specialist Tuition for Dyslexia and other SpLDs

Building on the information gleaned from assessment, key strengths and areas of need will be identified in order to develop an individually tailored programme.  This may include areas such as literacy, numeracy, organisational skills, memory and study skills.

You will receive:

  • 1:1 face to face or on-line tuition with a qualified teacher and SENCo who holds a Level 7 Post-graduate Certificate in Working with Children with Literacy Difficulties (Dyslexia / SpLD)
  • Forward thinking pedagogical approaches
  • A stimulating, supportive and encouraging environment
  • Multisensory strategies and approaches to learning and study
  • Activities to boost self confidence and metacognition
  • Support for specific schoolwork e.g. assignments, homework, presentations, assessments
